When i first bring a kitten home-?

should i keep the little guy in my room with food and water & litter box for the first day (humane society said i should keep him in a confined space for a day then let him out the second day), or should i let him be in the living room and kitchen (i live in apartment, not that big) and keep my bathroom door open with the litter box and shut our bedroom doors? i'd like him to sleep in my bed or in my room, it's probably the safest place for him. thanks!
