Why do so many Christians think of nudity as lewd, when our bodies are a work of God?

This is something I've never fully understood. God created Adam and Even in the nude, and by his own confession it was good. God was angry when they hid their bodies from him. He obviously didn't intend for humans to be clothed. So why do Christians oppose his will by persecuting those who have no shame about the form God gave them?
